The Selfish Gene!

It was just yesterday, when I came across this beautiful piece of work by R Dawkins, titled 'The Selfish Gene'.I have always set my mind into exploration, when it comes to the psychology behind selfishness and selflessness. Our selfishness, a greater degree of affection to one's own self, dates back to the heavy competition of sperms ready to combine with the ovum, that can result in successful fertilization.Beautiful examples of how some species, as a whole, exhibit the 'property' of selfishness, like the Emperor Penguins, which step onto a water body, only after the entry of another one, so that it be saved from the attack of seals, if present. No one wants to be defeated in life, and hence no one wants to give up their lovable life.Living life, bothered only of the good and bad of one's own self, and sometimes also, by expecting the bad of the other(may be unknowingly, sometimes) can be treated as Selfishness.A life, engulfed by selfishness, is never worth living.
